Oilers Rally Again to Victory

The Olean Oilers rallied for a 8-5 victory over the Hornell Dodgers at Bradner Stadium on Saturday night. The Dodgers fall to 21-24 on the year while the Oilers are now 39-6.

 

The Dodgers took an early lead in the 1st when John Ricotta (Monroe CC) collected a RBI two-out single that scored Mike Wick (Webster). Wick had led off the game by drawing a walk.

 

Brock Blovsky collected a RBI single and Cole Peterson followed with a two-RBI single in the 2nd to Olean their first lead.

 

In the 3rd, Tyler Burns (Trevecca) conncted on his second homer of the season to tie the game up at 3-3. Wick had led off the inning with a double and came around to score his second run of the game.

 

The game remained knotted at 3-3 until the 6th. The Dodgers loaded the bases and were able to score two runs following a throwing error.

 

In the 7th, Peterson scored on a passed ball and Matt Schneider tied the game up with a RBi ground out. Two batters later Jimmy Webb snuck a hit past a diving infield to give the Oilers the lead for good.

 

Peterson added a RBI single and David Hollins had a RBI triple in the 8th to add to the Olean lead.

 

Wick was 2 for 3 on the day while Tanner Klein (Mansfield) was 2 for 4. Billy Gregory (Mansfield) pitched well in his first start of the season. He went 6.2 innings allowing eight hits and five walks while striking out three.

 

Peterson was 4 for 5 with 3 RBI to pace the Oilers while Webb was 3 for 4 with a RBI. Andrew White earned the win out of the pen while Eddie Demurias picked up the save.

 

The Dodgers wrap up the regular season on Sunday when they host Wellsville Nitros at 7 p.m. Admission is free to the contest courtesy of WLEA/WCKR, Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, and the Bond-Davis Funeral Home.

 

With the loss and a Wellsville 19-11 victory over Genesee on Saturday, the Dodgers will be the #3 seed in the Western Division playoffs. Hornell will travel to Wellsville on Tuesday for a one-game play-in game to determine who will play Olean in the Western Division finals starting on Wednesday.
