In game two of the NYCBL Western Division Championship the Hornell Dodgers fell to the Olean Oilers 11-4 on a humid night at Maple City Park in Hornell.
The Dodgers were the first to put runs on the board in the 2nd. John Ricotta (Monroe CC) led of the inning with a single off the center field wall and scored on a RBI single by Tyler Burns (Trevecca Nazarene). Andy Brahier (Wisconsin Oshkosh) drove in the final run of the inning hitting a sacrifice fly to center.
In the 4th the Oilers tied things up at 2-2 with just one swing of the bat. Alex Griffith (Pittsburgh) blasted a two run homer over the center field fence.
The Dodgers answered right back in the bottom half of the 4th taking back their two run lead. Burns capitalized on an Oilers errant throw to score the first run of the inning. Jack Trotman (St. John Fisher) brought the Dodgers lead back to two with a single to right.
The Oilers rallied in the 6th taking away the Dodgers lead and giving themselves a two run lead of their own. Eddie Demurias (Florida) knocked a two RBI double to right center taking the Dodgers lead away. Jimmy Webb (Lock Haven) followed Demurias driving in the two go ahead runs with a bloop single to left that plated two.
In the 9th the Oilers offense added five insurance runs. With the bases loads Aaron Phillips (St. Bonaventue) scored on a bases loaded walk, Demurias drove in three on a bases clearing double, and Webb drove in a run with a single to right.
For the Dodgers Ricotta went 2-4 at the dish.
For the Oilers Griffith went 3-4 at the plate with two RBI’s while Demurias went 2-4 with five RBI’s.
On the mound Shawn Dubin (Buffalo) got the win for the Oilers putting in five innings of relief work. He allowed two hits and one walk while striking out five.
The win makes the Oilers the NYCBL Western Division Champs while the loss ends the Dodgers season. The Oilers will start their series against the Syracuse Jr. Chiefs, the NYCBL Eastern Division Champs, on Saturday at Bradner Stadium in Olean with the first pitch slated for 7 p.m.
