Seven Dodgers Named 1st Team All-NYCBL

Seven members of the 2017 NYCBL Champion Hornell Dodgers were named 1st team All-NYCBL this morning. Jack Brett (Willamette), Ethan Harrison (Trevecca), Connor Bailey (Willamette) Michael Young (UMASS Lowell), Jared Kapturasky (Mercyhurst), Matt Mulhearn (Webster), and Keaton Conner (Concordia Chicago) all were honored.

 

Brett led the NYCBL with a .399 batting average (57 for 143). He collected nine doubles, a triple, seven homers while driving in 38 runs. He scored 25 runs and stole seven bases. He also drove in three runs in the 2017 playoffs.

 

Harrison led the NYCBL with 52 stolen bases during the regular season (stole a total of 54 bases this summer). He hit .287 (43 for 150) during the regular season with 12 doubles, six triples, and 15 RBI. He scored 51 runs during the regular season and only four errors. In the postseason he hit .320 with six RBI.

 

Bailey hit .364 (56 for 154) with 11 doubles, three triples, and seven homers. He drove in a league high 41 runs, scored 43 times, and stole 13 bases. In the postseason en route to being name co-MVP he hit .440 with 5 RBI.

 

Young hit .369 (45 for 122) with six doubles, five triples, and six homers in 40 games of action. He stole 25 bases and scored 40 runs. In the postseason he hit a homer and drove in three runs.

 

Kapturasky hit .263 (35 for 133) with seven doubles, a triple, and seven homers during the regular season. He drove in 36, stole 11 bases, and scored 26 runs. In the postseason he hit .391 with four RBI. On the mound, he was 1-1 with six saves and a 0.93 ERA during the regular season. He allowed just two runs on six hits while striking out 31. In the postseason he pitched two innings and earned two saves while striking out four more batters.

 

Mulhearn was the workhorse of the Dodger pitching staff. He was 6-0 with a save during the regular season as he appeared in 12 games and tossed 59 innings. He struck out 52 batters and had a 3.05 ERA. In the postseason he earned another victory and struck out 11 in 15 innings of work.

 

Conner was 6-0 with a 2.61 ERA in 44.2 innings of work during the regular season. He made seven starts and struck out 36 batters. In his one playoff start he threw eight innings of three hit ball to earn another victory. He struck out nine in the contest that clinched the Dodgers place in the NYCBL Finals.

 

The Dodgers had the best record in the NYCBL in the regular season, 30-12, and then won both the Western Division Championship and NYCBL Championship 2 games to 1. All seven players honored today were members of the NYCBL All-Star game as well.

 

Last week, Brett and Bailey were named co-players of the year, Harrison was named the defensive player of the year, Kapturasky was named reliever of the year, and Dodger head coach CJ Baker was named manager of the year.
