7/14/2018

Nate Tholl (Webster) collected four hits as the Hornell Dodgers lost a tight 5-2 decision at Olean on Saturday night. Tholl collected four of the Dodgers ten hits in the contest.

The Dodgers got on the board first with a pair of runs in the 3rd. Drew Hefner (Charleston) collected a two-out single and scored when Joey Faudskar (Willamette) connected on a double down the line. The throw home attempting to stop Hefner from scoring rattled around the backstop allowing Faudskar to score as well.

The Oilers cut the lead in half in the 5th inning on a RBI ground rule double by Niall Doherty. They took the lead for good in the 6th when they put together four hits that led to three runs. Matthew Grace tied it up on a RBI double, Dominic Cecere gave Olean their first lead with a sac fly, and Joey Battaglia collected a RBI double to make it 4-2.

The Oilers added an insurance run in the 8th when Battaglia hit a bases loaded single.

Nolan Hunt pitched 8.1 innings and stranded 10 Dodgers on base to earn the win. He allowed 10 hits, walked three and struck out one. Battaglia was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI while Cole Hollins and Kevin Higgins each had two hits.

Tholl was 4 for 5 for Hornell while Hefner was 2 for 3. Kyler Kent (Webster) also collected two his. Jake Dunn (Finger Lakes CC) was solid on the mound. He tossed seven innings allowing four runs on 11 hits. He didn't walk a batter and struck out two.

Hornell and Olean continue their three-game series on Sunday when they host a 3 p.m. doubleheader with the Oilers.
