The Niagara Power broke a tie in the 8th inning and held off the Hornell Dodgers attempts to tie the game in the 8th and 9th inning and took a 5-4 decision on a perfect night for baseball at Maple City Park.
The Dodgers started things off in the 2nd and took a 2-0 lead over the Power. Matt Fauth (Concorida-Chicago) hit a sacrifice fly and Brody Burdett (Alfred State) followed with a RBI single.
In the 3rd the Power tied things up when Nick Carlini delivered a two-out, two-run single.
In the 5th. the Dodgers took back their two-run lead. A walk to Josh Laurie (Alfred State) followed by bunt singles by Nate Tholl (Webster) and Matt Staker (Webster) loaded the bases. Ted Leathersich and Keegan Tyrell (Concordia-Chicago) followed with sac flies.
Niagara got a pair of runs in the 7th to tie the game back up. David Wessels had an RBI single and Espinal added a sacrifice fly to tie it up.
Lawson Burnett delivered a two-out single in the top of the 8th to give Niagara their first lead of the game.
The Dodgers threatened in the 8th and 9th but fell short to the Power after stranding the tying runs on the base.
Matt Dessena (St. John Fisher) pitched seven solid innings for the Dodgers allowing six hits and three earned runs.Trevor Cooley earned the win on the mound with two innings of relief while Wyatt Linde recorded the final three outs for the save.
Tyrell was 2 for 3 while Staker was 2 for 4. Burnett was 2 for 2 for the Power while Carlini was 2 for 4.
The Dodgers are on the road for their next three games starting at Houghton tomorrow against the Genesee Rapids with a 7 pm start time.
