Josh Laurie (Alfred State) hit two homers and collected four hits as the Hornell Dodgers battled the Sherrill Silvermiths. The Silversmiths grabbed an early lead and held on for a 13-9 victory.
The Dodgers got on the board first with a pair of runs in the 2nd inning. Tyler Marshall (Amherst) drove in a run on a grounder and Drew Hefner (Charleston) scored on a error.
The Silversmiths scored a run in the 2nd, three in the 3rd, and one more in the 4th to take a 5-1 lead before Laurie connected on his first of two homers on the day to lead off the 5th. In the bottom of the 5th, Sherrill plated five more runs to take a 10-3 lead.
Neither team scored in the 6th, before the Dodgers rallied for six runs in the 7th to get right back in the game. Keegan Tyrell (Concordia Chicago) drove in a run, Kyler Kent (Webster) scored on an error, Matt Fauth (Concordia Chicago) drove in a run on a fielder's choice, Marshall hit a RBI single, and Laurie greeted a new Sherrill pitcher with a two-run homer to make it 10-9. The Dodgers threatened for more but stranded two runners.
Sherrill responded with three runs in the bottom of the 7th to make it 13-9 and the Dodgers were unable to get anything across the plate the rest of the way.
Laurie finished 4 for 5 with 3 RBI while Nate Tholl (Webster) was 3 for 6. Andrew Rodden was 4 for 5 with 2 RBI while Mickey Mullins and Nate Cormier each collected two hits for Sherrill.
Ryan Cooper earned the win with six innings of work while Rylan Baker went the final 2.1 innings to earn the save.
The Dodgers play their final road game of the season on Friday when they visit Wellsville for a 5 p.m. start.
