Five Dodgers Named All-NYCBL

Five members of the 2018 Hornell Dodgers have been named to the All-NYCBL team. The Dodgers led the NYCBL in hitting with a .310 batting average.

 

Kyler Kent (Webster) led the league with 38 runs scored, was 3rd in RBI with 36, and was 6th with a .368 batting average (63 for 171) He appeared in all 42 games and collected 11 doubles, one triple, two homers, and scored 38 runs. He also stole 14 bases.  Kent was also a member of the mid-season NYCBL All-Star team where he was named the NYCBL Offensive Player of the game with a pair of hits and a pair of RBI.

 

Drew Demler (Transylvania) led the Dodgers pitching staff all season. He appeared in 14 games and was 5-2 with three saves. He tossed 63.2 innings and had a 2.82 ERA. His five victories were tied for 2nd most in the NYCBL. Demler was dominant in his last seven appearances. He was 3-0 with three saves in 24 innings of work. He allowed just three earned runs during that stretch.

 

Drew Hefner (Charleston), a freshmen catcher, appeared in 34 games and hit .350 (41 for 117). He collected six doubles, a triple, and drove in 21 runs. He scored 27 times and stole four bases. Hefner was also a member of the mid-season NYCBL All-Star team.

 

Ted Leathersich (UMass Lowell) led the Dodgers with six homers. His six homers was tied for 5th in the NYCBL. He appeared in 37 games and hit .316 (43 for 136) with 12 doubles, two triples, and 18 stolen bases. He also scored 32 runs on the season.

 

Nate Tholl (Webster) hit .340 (48 for 141) on the summer. He collected six doubles, 14 RBI, and stole 28 bases. His 28 stolen bases were 2nd in the NYCBL. Tholl ended the season on fire. He collected multiple hits in seven of his last ten games including four games with at least three hits.

 

The Dodgers finished the season winning seven of their final 13 games and ended the year with a 15-27 overall record.
