Dodgers Drop Opener, Second Game Suspended
7/19/2019

The Mansfield Destroyers jumped out to an early lead and won the opener of a doubleheader 8-4 on Friday afternoon. A weather delay in the second game did not allow the second game to be completed in the 5th inning.

Mansfield scored three runs in the 1st and four more in the 2nd to grab the 7-0 lead. Michael Wein had the biggest hit of the first two innings as he hit a three-run homer.

In the 6th, the Dodgers got on the board on a RBI hit by Nick Wimmers and a sac fly by Kevin Higgins. Mansfield added a run in the bottom of the 6th to make it 7-2. In the 7th, Josh Laurie scored on a wild pitch and Brody Burdett followed with a RBI single.

Burdett was the lone Dodger with multiple hits finishing 2 for 3 with a RBI. Dakota Borman kept the Dodgers in the game with an outstanding performance out of the bullpen. He allowed four hits and one run in 4.1 innings of work.

In the second game, Mansfield leads 9-4 with two outs in the top of the 5th inning.

The Dodgers and Destroyers are looking to finish up the second game of the doubleheader tomorrow at Maple City Park at 2:30 p.m. (still waiting final confirmation of umpires). At 7 p.m. the Dodgers will take on Genesee in the regularly scheduled game.
