Dodgers and Rapids Split

The Hornell Dodgers and the Genesee Rapids split a doubleheader at Houghton College on Friday. The Dodgers won the opener 6-3 while the Rapids took the nightcap 12-0.

 

In the first Brendan O'Donnell (Rider) hit a double and scored when Jack McDonald (Wilmington) singled to center four pitches later.

 

Matt Staker (Webster) collected a RBI single in the 2nd and O'Donnell followed with a RBI single to left to make it 3-0.

 

The Rapids scored a single run in the 2nd and 3rd to cut the lead to 3-2. In the 6th, Garrett Stuckey (Finger Lakes CC) singled and came home when he stole third and scored on a throwing error. 

 

Genesee scored a run in the bottom of the 6th but the Dodgers added two insurance runs when they took advantage of a pair of throwing errors after a double steal by Matteo Avallone (Alfred State) and Ryan Hill (Monroe CC/Mercyhurst).

 

McDonald was 2 for 3 with a RBI, O'Donnell was 2 for 4 with a RBI, and Avallone was 2 for 4. 

 

Charlie White (Boiling Springs, PA/Wilmington) struck out three and allowed one run in the first two innings of the game while Brody Burdett (Alfred State) tossed five innings of relief to earn the win. He allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out three.

 

Genesee scored three in the 1st of the nightcap and never looked back. They scored six in the 3rd, two in the 5th and one more in the 6th.

 

Avallone was the lone Dodger with multiple hits finishing 2 for 2.

 

The Dodgers wrap up the regular season tomorrow at Houghton College when they have another contest with the Genesee Rapids. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. and there are fireworks after the game.
