Rapids Rally to Win Regular Season Finale

The Hornell Dodgers couldn't hold on to a lead as the Genesee Rapids rallied for a 7-6 victory in the Dodgers regular season finale.

 

Genesee got on the board in the 1st but Hornell answered with a big 2nd inning. Jordyn Smith (Grambling) led off with a single and went to second when Levi Hall (Webster) was walked. The pair executed a double steal and Smith scored on a throwing error. After an error, Matt Staker (Webster) drove in Hall with a fielder's choice. Ryan Hill (Monroe CC/Mercyhurst) drew a walk and AJ Gonzalez (St. Thomas Aquinas) hit a single to center to make ti 3-1. Two pitches later, Brendan O'Donnell (Rider) connected on a long three-run homer to make it 6-1.

 

Bryan Adams came out of the pen and shut down the Dodgers the rest of the way.

 

Genesee scored two in the 4th and two in the 5th to cut the lead to 6-5 and then was able to complete the rally in the 7th. Andrew Elcock led off with a single and Colin Mann was walked. After a sac bunt, Tyler Colditz followed with a RBI single to center. Tyler Fairchild took the next pitch and singled to right to give the Rapids the lead for good.

 

Adams retired the final six batters to seal the victory. He finished the day pitching 7.2 innings of two-hit relief. He walked one and struck out six.

 

O'Donnell was the lone Dodger with multiple hits finishing 2 for 4 with his 5th homer of the season.

 

The Dodgers will host a Western Division First Round game on Monday, July 26th at 7 p.m. The one-game series will determine who will head to Mansfield on Tuesday to begin the Western Division Finals (Best of Three). Season Passes and Elite Season Passes will be accepted.

 

The Dodgers opponent will be determined on Sunday when Genesee and Rochester battle in a one-game play-in to determine the #3 seed.

 

Hornell finishes the regular season with a 27-14-1 overall record.
