The Olean Oilers used a big 1st and 2nd inning to race to a 12-2 victory over the Hornell Steamers on Tuesday.
Olean scored six in the 1st inning to take control. Hornell tried to rally in the bottom half of the inning and scored a run on a RBI single by Jordyn Smith (Oklahoma Wesleyan). They threatened for more but did not score.
The Oilers matched their output in the 1st with six more in the 2nd. Hornell scored what would be the final run of the game in the 3rd when Paxton Hughes (Trevecca Nazarene) collected a RBI hit.
Hornell tried to cut into the lead but ended up stranding 11 runners on base.
Connor Kiefer (Monroe CC) continued his torrid hitting with a 3 for 4 day. Hughes also finished with two hits in four at bats. Tre Slawson (Keuka) threw three scoreless innings out of the pen.
Hornell is back at Maple City Park on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest vs. the Mansfield Destroyers.
