Rapids edge Steamers

The Hornell Steamers fell 8-6 in a tight contest vs. the Genesee Rapids on Wednesday evening.

 

The Rapids jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the 1st but Hornell answered right back with four of their own in the bottom of the inning. DJ Stoianovich (Finger Lakes CC) delivered a two-RBI single and Luca Ciaramitaro (Siena) followed with a RBI single. Stoianovich scored on the same play after a fielding error.

 

The game remained 4-4 until the 5th when Genesee plated two runs. The Rapids added two more in the 6th but Hornell didn't go away. Ciaramitaro delivered a RBI double in the 6th and Swanson drew a walk and scored on a wild pitch in the 7th to cut the lead to 8-6. 

 

Hornell stranded the bases loaded in the 7th and had the tying run at the plate with one out in the 9th but couldn't get any closer.

 

Ciaramitaro was the lone Steamer with multiple hits finishing 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI. Tre Slawson allowed just two earned runs in 3.2 innings of relief to keep Hornell in the game. He walked two and struck out four.

 

Aiden Stern was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI while Eli Huebner was 2 for 4. Owen Clark earned the win with five innings of work. He allowed three hits and three earned runs while walking four and striking out eight. Jacob Allen threw the final four innings to earn the save. He allowed three hits, two earned runs, and walked three but struck out three.

 

Hornell continues their homestand on Thursday with a 7 p.m. contest with the Olean Oilers.
