The Hornell Steamers defeated the Dansville Gliders 7-5 in a weather shortened game called in the 6th inning.
Hornell got on the board in the 1st inning when Noah Brooks (Siena) collected a bases loaded walk. In the 3rd, Jason Story (Utica) lifted a sac fly to right to make it 2-0.
The Steamers pushed the lead to 7-0 with a five-run 5th inning. Story drove in the first run on a fielder's choice, Bobby Bartlett (North Park) drove in two with a RBI single that was misplayed and allowed him to score on the play, and Justin Swanson (North Park) scored on a wild pitch.
As the storm approached, Dansville collected five runs on five hits to cut into the lead. Samuel Low and Mitchell Gumbko each collected two-RBI singles.
With the Gliders warming up in the bottom of the inning, lightning was seen in the area and the game was eventually called.
Robert Chesney (Central Connecticut State) was 2 for 2, Ryan Hill (Mercyhurst) was 2 for 3, and Tyler Curtis (Fredonia) was 2 for 3. Bartlett and Story both drove in a pair of runs.
Gates Miller (Alfred State) earned the win on the mound. He threw 5.1 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits.
Low was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI while Gumbko was 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI.
Hornell plays their final home game of the season on Saturday when they host the Olean Oilers at 7 p.m.
