The Hornell Steamers swept a pair from the Salamanca Lizards on Friday evening. The Steamers won the opener 14-7 and the nightcap 5-1.
In the opener, Hornell exploded for ten runs in the 1st inning and never looked back. Elijah Nichols (Arkansas State) led off with a single before a single by Alex Dupuy (LSU Eunice). The pair executed a double steal to make it 1-0. Jackson Legg (LSU Eunice) singled and Dupuy scored when the pair executed another double steal. Braden McLin (Louisiana Christian) drew a walk before Finn Ellis (U of Charleston) hit a RBI single. Markus Brehm (Finger Lakes CC) hit a RBI single, Nicolas Schwing (Holmes JC) hit a RBI single, and Ty Kenney (Houghton) hit a RBI double. As the inning continued, Nichols collected a RBI double, McLin added a RBI single, and Dupuy scored on another double steal.
In total, Hornell sent 14 batters to the plate to score ten runs on nine hits.
Salamanca climbed back in the game with a run in the 1st, five in the 4th and one more in the 5th.
In the 6th, Ellis collected a RBI single and Schwing made it 12-7 with a RBI single to right.
McLin added two more run in the 7th with a two-run single to center.
McLin finished 3 for 4 with 4 RBI and tossed the first two innings of the game before a lightning delay. Nichols was 3 for 5 with a RBI, Schwing was 2 for 2 with two RBI, and Ellis was 2 for 5 with a pair of RBI.
In the second game, Wes Carter (Webster) and Dylan Kinney matched scoreless frames before Dupuy walked and scored on a throwing error in the 4th. Anthony Snyder tied it in the bottom of the inning with a RBI single.
In the 5th, Hornell loaded the bases without collecting a hit and Dupuy made it count with a bases clearing double to left center to give the Steamers a 4-1 lead.
Rustin Pope (Coastal Alabama North CC) added an insurance run in the 6th with a sac fly.
Carter threw a complete game six-hitter. He allowed one run, walked a pair, and struck out five.
Dupuy was the lone Steamer with multiple hits finishing 2 for 3 with 3 RBI.
The Steamers have Saturday off before playing their final game before the All-Star break on Sunday at Genesee. First pitch is at 2 p.m.
