The Hornell Steamers scored six runs in the 8th inning and earned their sixth straight win with a 6-2 win over the Genesee Rapids. The Steamers are now 19-7-1 on the year.
Genesee got on the board in the 3rd when Dalton Cady executed a perfect squeeze play to score Joshua Fuentes who had led the inning off with a single.
They doubled their lead in the 7th when Caeden Schulte collected a two-out single down the left field line.
Hornell got it going in the 8th with a big inning. Elijah Nichols (Arkansas State) collected a one out walk and went to third on a throwing error. Alex Dupuy (LSU Eunice) got the Steamers on the board with a RBI single and two batters later Brody Langlotz (Gulf Coast CC) tied it with a single of his own. Finn Ellis (U of Charleston) gave Hornell their first lead with a two run double to right center field. Nicolas Schwing (Holmes JC) added two more with a two-run single over the drawn in infield.
Eli Fuselier (Nunez CC) threw a scoreless 8th and Cowan Alfonso (Louisiana Christian) allowed just one hit in the 9th to close the game.
Yanow allowed just three hits in six innings of work. He walked one and struck out two while allowing just one run. Danik Reed (Nunez CC) allowed two hits and one run in the 7th.
Legg and Brehm were each 2 for 3 on the day while Schwing was 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI.
Hornell enters the All-Star break with a three-point lead in the standings.
Nichols, Legg, Langlotz, Braden McLin (Louisiana Christian), and Alfonso will represent the Steamers at the NYCBL All-Star game tomorrow in Rochester. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at Innovative Field.
