Steamers collect 17 hits in win

The Hornell Steamers collected 17 hits as they defeated the Olean Oilers 13-3 on Friday night. The Steamers improve to 27-7-1 on the season.

 

Jason Story got the Oilers on the board in the 1st when he collected a RBI groundout.

 

Hornell bounced right back and grabbed a lead they would never give up. Alex Dupuy (LSU Eunice) hit a RBI single, Markus Brehm (Finger Lakes CC) scored on a throwing error, Nicolas Schwing (Holmes JC) collected a RBI groundout, and Rustin Pope (Coastal Alabama CC) had a RBI double. 

 

JP Pennella collected a two-run double in the 3rd but Schwing answered that with a RBI double in the bottom of the inning.

 

Hornell put the game out of reach with three-run innings in both the 4th and 5th inning. Jackson Legg (LSU Eunice), Schwing, and Pope each had RBI singles in the 4th. Brehm scored on a passed ball, Dupuy hit a RBI double, and Legg added a RBI single in the 5th.

 

Elijah Nichols (Arkansas State) collected a RBI double in the 6th and Legg ended the game in the 8th with a RBI single.

 

Legg was 4 for 4 with 3 RBI while Schwing (3 for 5, 3 RBI), Dupuy (3 for 4, 2 RBI), and Nicholas (3 for 6, RBI) all had three hits.  Pope was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.

 

Mason McClurg (Finger Lakes CC) earned the win with five innings of work. He allowed six hits and two earned runs while striking out three. Logan Hoyt (Alfred State) walked three and struck out one in the final three innings.

 

Hornell plays the final game of the regular season on Saturday when they host the Horseheads Hitmen. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
