Steamers take game one
7/24/2024

The bats came alive late as the Hornell Steamers defeated the Dansville Gliders 9-1 in game one of the Western Division Championships.

Hornell got on the board in the 3rd when Elijah Nichols (Arkansas State) was hit by a pitch. He went to second on a single by Nicolas Schwing (Holmes JC), went to third on a failed pickoff attempt, and scored on a wild pitch.

Dansville tied it and scored their lone runs of the game in the 5th when Carter Shin hit a RBI double down the right field line to plate Bryant Loving who had led the inning off with a double.

Hornell put together a big 6th inning to take control of the game. They loaded the bases and Brody Langlotz (Gulf Coast State) drew a bases loaded walk. Braden McLin (Louisiana Christian) followed with a sac fly before Rustin Pope (Coastal Alabama North CC) hit a RBI single. Langlotz capped the scoring when he stole home.

In the 7th, Langlotz delivered a two-RBI single and Nichols added two more runs in the 8th with a double over the right fielder's head.

Jeremy Yanow (Webster) was outstanding on the mound. He allowed just five hits and one run in eight innings of work. He didn't walk a batter and struck out five. Alex Dupuy (LSU Eunice) worked a perfect 9th inning to close the game.

Schwing led the Steamers 11-hit with a 3 for 4 day. Markus Brehm (Finger Lakes CC) was 2 for 3, Dupuy was 2 for 4, and Langlotz was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI.

Gavin Hardee was tough on the mound for Dansville. He allowed four hits and two earned runs in five innings of work. Loving was the lone Glider with multiple hits finishing 2 for 3.

The game was moved to Maple City Park after a rainstorm hit Dansville right before the scheduled first pitch.

With the change of venue for game one the rest of the championship series has been adjusted. Game two of the series will be played tomorrow at Babcock Park at 2 p.m. If a game three is necessary it will be played at 7 p.m. at Maple City Park.
