Four run 8th forces a game three

The Dansville Gliders scored four runs in the 8th to force a game three of the NYCBL Western Division Championships with a 5-3 win on Thursday afternoon.

 

Dansville got on the board in the 1st when Cooper Berry hit a sac fly.

 

Hornell tied the game in the 4th when Braden McLin (Louisiana Christian) answered with a sacrifice fly of his own.

 

The Steamers took their first lead in the 7th when McLin crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

 

Dansville put together a big 8th innning. Carter Shin and Cale Cochran hit back to back singles before Cameron Abele drew a walk to load the bases. Russell Golembe hit a single to center to tie the game. After a fly out, Aidan Diltz hit a RBI single to give the Gliders the lead. Liam Stonestreet and Justin Colpack followed with RBI singles to add insurance.

 

In the 9th, Markus Brehm (Finger Lakes CC) led off with a walk before Devin Mersmann (Alfred State) and Elijah Nichols (Arkansas State) drew walks to load the bases. Bryant Loving came to the mound from third base and only allowed a RBI groundout but struck out a pair to close the game.

 

Loving was the lone player in the game with multiple hits finishing 2 for 3 on top of earning the save. Ethan Pollack did not factor in the decision but threw the first six innings. He allowed one run on two hits and seven walks. He struck out five. Justin Hernandez got the win with two innings of relief. He allowed one run on one hit. He walked five and struck out five.

 

Mason McClurg (Finger Lakes CC) was outstanding on the mound. He allowed one run on three hits in seven innings of work. He walked two and struck out two.

 

Hornell was held to just three hits in the game but drew 12 walks. The Steamers stranded ten runners on base.

 

The deciding game three of three of the series will be played at 7 p.m. tonight (7/25) at Maple City Park.
