The Genesee Rapids started off fast and did not look back in a 14-4 over the Hornell Steamers in front of over 575 fans at Maple City Park. The Rapids remain perfect at 5-0 while the Steamers fall to 4-3.
The Rapids got the scoring started early, scoring seven runs in the 1st inning. Jerry Guzman and Michael Frausto drew bases loaded walks, Braeden Dyck collected a RBI on an error, and Zachary Gibson capped the big inning with a grand slam to left.
The Steamers bounced right back scoring four runs of their own on a passed ball, an RBI groundout by Dalton Groves (Webster), an RBI single by Caleb Cassidy (Pomona Pitzer), and an RBI double by Dylan Walsh (Brandeis), cutting the lead down to three, 7-4.
The Rapids continued scoring in the 2nd and 3rd inning tallying a run in each inning. Eli Huebner had a RBI single in the 3rd and Troy Chamberlin collected a RBI double in the 4th.
Genesee tacked on three more runs in the 5th inning on an RBI single by Chamberlin and a two-RBI single by Frausto.
The Rapids capped their scoring in the 6th inning tacking on two more runs on a two-RBI double by Guzman.
Caleb Cassidy put on a good performance for the Steamers in the loss tallying two hits with one RBI.
The Rapids were led by Gibson who was 2-2 with a grand slam, Gage Wheaton was 2-2, and Chamberlin was 2-4 with two RBIs.
Caleb Hall had a great performance on the mound pitching 5.2 innings, only giving up four hits, four runs, and striking out six.
The Steamers are back in action on Saturday, June 13 against the Dasville Gliders at 5 p.m.
