Steamers and Lizards tie

The Hornell Steamers and the Salamanca Lizards tied 7-7 on Sunday evening. The Lizards rallied with big 8th and 9th innings to tie it up.

 

The Steamers got the scoring started early on a Cooper McEnroe (Northwestern State) RBI single in the 1st inning.

 

The Steamers notched another run in the 4th inning on a throwing error, extending their lead to 2-0.

 

The Lizards came back to score a run of their own in the 6th inning on a sacrifice fly by Harley Hoag. 

 

The Steamers answered right back with an explosive 7th inning, scoring three runs on another McEnroe RBI single, an RBI single by Hayden Hernandez (LSU Eunice), and a wild pitch.

 

The Steamers tacked on two more runs in the 8th inning on an RBI single by Wyatt Argentieri (Genesee CC) and Dylan Walsh (Brandeis), extending their lead to 7-1.

 

The Lizards answered back with three runs of their own in the 8th inning on a three-run home run by Matt Smith. 

 

The Lizards were not done scoring three more runs in the bottom of the 9th inning on an RBI single by Gabe Roth and a clutch two-run single by Smith.

 

The game went into the 10th inning but ended in a tie, with a score of 7-7.

 

The Steamers were led by their starting pitcher Caleb Wilson (Finger Lakes CC), who pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out three batters. Three Steamers led the team on offense. McEnroe recorded two hits with two RBIs, and both Argentieri and Hernandez recorded two hits with one RBI.

 

The Lizards were led by a five-RBI night at the plate by Smith, including a three-run home run and a clutch two-RBI single in the 9th inning, as well as a four-hit one-RBI night for Roth.

 

The Steamers are back in action for Kids Day on Monday, June 16, at Maple City Park. The first pitch is at 11 a.m.
