Hitmen win slugfest

The Horsehead Hitmen won a slugfest, 24-13, over the Hornell Steamers on Saturday night.

 

Horsheads got on the board in the 1st but Hornell answered with four of their own the bottom of the inning. The Hitmen tied it with three in the 2nd and took the lead for good with six in the 3rd.

 

The Hitmen scored two more in the 4th before Hornell answered with a run. The final three innings featured twelve runs by Horseheads (three in the 7th and 8th and six more in the 9th) while the Steamers scored four in both the 7th and 8th.

 

The game featured 37 runs, 43 hits, and 11 walks. 

 

Jayren Foster was 5 for 7 with 5 RBI, including a homer to pace the Hitmen. Max Underhill was 4 for 5 with 3 RBI while Domonic Vogel was 2 for 7 with 5 RBI. 

 

Jacob Charlson (Webster) was 5 for 5 with a RBI for Hornell. Qingyang Feng (Houghton) was 3 for 4 with a three-run homer, Austin Ellis (Northwestern State) was 3 for 5 with a solo homer, and Caleb Cassidy (Pomona Pitzer) was 2 for 6 with a 2 run homer. Wyatt Argentieri (Genesee CC) was 2 for 5 with a bases clearing triple.

 

Zac Larkin got the win with three innings of relief work while Clay Cook got the save by pitching the final three innings.

 

Hornell is right back on the field on Sunday when they take on the Genesee Rapids at 2 p.m.
