Steamers and Hitmen Tie

Hornell and Horseheads tied 6-6 in a Friday evening battle. The Steamers are now 7-10-2 on the year while the Hitmen are 9-9-1.

 

The Steamers got started fast with three runs in the 1st. Austin Ellis (Northwestern State) hit a double off the center field wall to score Tobey Wright (Monroe CC). He scored on a RBI single by Caleb Cassidy (Pomona Pitzer). Will Dixon (LSU Eunice) capped the inning with a RBI single to left.

 

Ellis continued his big day with a solo homer to left in the 5th.

 

Horseheads started their comeback in the bottom of the inning on a RBI sac fly by Max Underhill. They tied the game with three runs in the 6th. Drake Lee collected a RBI single and Frank Vogel followed with a two-run single to right.

 

Markus Brehm (Finger Lakes CC) gave Hornell back the lead in the 8th when he sent his first homer of the season over the left field fence.

 

Mason Cook doubled to center to tie the game at 5-5 in the 7th.

 

In the 9th, Brehm reached on a fielder's choice, stole second, and third before Cooper McEnroe (Northwestern State) delivered a two-out RBI single.

 

In the bottom of the inning, Domonic Vogel collected a one out single. He came home with two outs on a wild pitch to tie the game and send the game into extra innings.

 

Hornell put a runner on in the 10th but could not score and Michael Pasquesi (Webster) downed the Hitmen 1-2-3 in the bottom of the half of the inning to end the game in a tie.

 

The Steamers collected 15 hits in the game. Ellis finished 4 for 5 with 2 RBI while Wright was 4 for 5. Cassidy finished 3 for 5 with a RBI. Mike Protz (Fredonia) allowed four runs in six innings of work. He walked one and struck out five.

 

Vogel led Horsheads with a 3 for 5 day.

 

The Steamers travel to Salamanca on Saturday for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch with the Lizards.
