The Hornell Steamers and the Salamanca Lizards tied for the second time this season, 5-5, on Saturday night. The Steamers are now 7-10-3 as they hit the halfway point of the 2025 season.
Austin Ellis (Northwestern State) got the Steamers on the board when he scored on a fielding error in the 4th.
Hunter White gave the Lizards a lead with a two-run double in the bottom of the inning.
Cooper McEnroe (Northwestern State) tied it in the 5th with a RBI single to center but Salamanca scored two of their own when Matt Smith drove in a run on a fielder's choice and Gabe Roth scored on an error.
Hornell battled back with a run in the 6th on a RBI single by Markus Brehm (Finger Lakes CC). The Steamers had opportunities to tie the game but could not plate a run until the 9th.
In the 9th, Qingang Feng (Houghton) led off with a single, Ellis was hit by a pitch, and Dalton Groves (Webster) collected a bunt single. Salamanca recorded the next two outs before Dylan Walsh (Brandeis) delivered a two run single to center to give Hornell the 5-4 lead.
Salamanca put the tying run on base in the 9th before Connor Smith delivered a two-out sigle to tie the game.
Both teams went 1-2-3 in the 10th inning and the game ended in a 5-5 tie.
Feng led the Steamers 16-hit attack with a 4 for 5 day. Brehm, McEnroe, Groves, and Jacob Charlson (Webster) all collected a pair of hits.
Toby Gleeson-Payne (LSU Eunice) struck out five and allowed three earned runs in six innings of work while Michael Pasquesi (Webster) struck out five and let up one run in three innings of relief.
Connor Smith and Lucas Marsh each collected two hits for Salamanca.
Hornell hosts Dansville on Sunday for a 5 p.m. game. Come early as the Hornell Challenger League will play their final game of the season at Maple City Park starting at 4 p.m.
