The Hornell Steamers took down the Dansville Gliders 5-3 on Sunday after a clutch performance in the later innings of the game. The Steamers move to 8-10-3 on the year, while the Gliders fall to 9-11.
The Gliders got the scoring started in the 1st inning, scoring three runs on an RBI ground out by Justin Colpack, an RBI single by Maurice Martinez, and an RBI double by Bryant Loving.
The game remained 3-0 until the 7th inning when Alex Green (Finger Lakes CC) hit a RBI double to left center.
The Steamers continued their scoring, taking the lead in the 8th. After loading the bases, Cooper McEnroe (Northwestern State) singled home a pair to tie the game, Caleb Cassidy (Pomona Pitzer) then scored on a wild pitch to take the lead, and Hornell added another insurance run on a sacrifice fly by Jacob Charlson (Webster).
The Gliders fought back in the 9th, scoring a run on a two-out RBI double by Garrett, but were unable to complete the comeback, making the final score 5-4.
The Steamers were led by Austin Ellis (Northwestern State), Cassidy, and Markus Brehm (Finger Lakes CC), as well as McEnroe, who had a huge two-run single in the later stages of the game.
The Gliders were led by Emmett McLean, who was perfect at 5-5, and Maurice Martinez, Bryant Loving, Grant Garrett, and Owen Simoneoux, who all had two hits apiece.
Sebastian Ecker (Montclair State) earned the win by getting the final two outs in the 8th while Michael Pasquesi (Webster) recorded all three outs by strikeout in the 9th to earn the save.
The Steamers look to pick up another win at Maple City Park against the Horseheads Hitmen on Tuesday, July 1st. The first pitch is at 7 p.m.
