The Hornell Steamers collected 20 hits in a 17-7 victory over the Horseheads in the heat on Sunday. Hornell is now 11-13-3 on the year.
Jacob Charlson (Webster) got Hornell on the board with a RBI single in the 2nd. Wyatt Argentieri (Genesee CC) followed with a two-run single up the middle, and Markus Brehm (Finger Lakes CC) capped the six-run inning with a three run homer to left.
Will Dixon (LSU Eunice) made it 8-0 in the 3rd when he collected a two-RBI single to right field.
Charlson and Dixon hit sacrifice flies in the 5th inning to build the lead to 10-0.
In the bottom of the inning, Horseheads got back in the game with a six-run inning. Shunto Sakamoto highlighted the innings with a three-run homer to center.
In the 7th, Charlson connected on a two-run homer to center, Tobey Wright (Monroe CC) followed with a RBI double, Caleb Cassidy (Pomona Pitzer) hit a sac fly, and Austin Ellis (Northwestern State) followed with a two-RBI single to left.
Sakamoto hit a RBI single in the 7th before Cassidy capped the scoring with a RBI single to left to make it 17-7.
Eight of the Steamers collected multiple hits in the game. Charlson was 3 for 4 with 4 RBI while Cassidy was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI. Argentieri was 3 for 5 with a pair of RBI. Wright, Brehm, Hayden Hernandez (LSU Eunice), Ellis, and Dixon all collected two hits.
Caleb Wilson (Finger Lakes CC) earned the win with five innings of work while Michael Pasquesi (Webster) worked the final three innings to close the game.
The Steamers have Monday off before starting a three game homestand on Tuesday. Hornell takes on Olean starting at 7 p.m.
