Steamers can't overcome big 1st inning

The Dansville Gliders scored seven in the 1st and held off all the Hornell Steamers comeback efforts in a 11-6 victory. The Gliders are now 16-14 while the Steamers fall to 12-14-3.

 

Justin Colpack got the seven run 1st inning started with a two-run single. Maurice Martinez followed with a RBI single and Colpack scored on an error. Kade Keown followed with a two-run single to right and Emmett McLean capped the inning with a RBI single up the middle.

 

Keown made it 8-0 with a RBI single in the 3rd before Hornell started their comeback attempts.

 

In the 4th, Tobey Wright (Monroe CC) collected a RBI single, Markus Brehm (Finger Lakes CC) followed with a RBI double, and Caleb Cassidy (Pomona Pitzer) made it 8-4 with a two-run single to left center.

 

McLean collected his third hit of the game, a RBI double to left center in the 6th and Chase Donahue followed with a RBI single to right center.

 

Hayden Hernandez (LSU Eunice) hit a sac fly in the 6th, Bryant Loving answered with a sac fly in the 7th, and Brehm capped the scoring with a sac fly in the bottom of the 7th.

 

Austin Ellis (Northwestern State) was 3 for 4 while Brehm finished 3 for 5 with a pair of RBI. Andrew Davis (Genesee CC) kept the Steamers in the game with five solid innings of relief. He allowed just two earned runs on five hits while walking just one and striking out four.

 

McLean led the way for Dansville with a 3 for 5, 2 RBI day while Donahue was 3 for 5 with a RBI. Owen Simenoux silenced any comeback attempt by pitching the final 2.1 innings allowing just one hit while striking out four.

 

Hornell hits the road on Saturday for a 7 p.m. contest vs. the Olean Oilers.
