The Olean Oilers picked up a 13-5 victory on Thursday evening in the completion of a suspended game from July 8. The Oilers are now 15-12-3 on the year while the Steamers are now 14-17-3.
Last Tuesday, Olean jumped out to a 4-1 lead after one inning before the homeplate umpire suffered a medical emergency that led to the suspension of the game.
The Oilers picked up where they left in the resumption of the game on Thursday. They added three runs in the 2nd, one in the 3rd, four in the 4th, and one in the 7th.
Hornell mounted a comeback attempt in the 7th with a four-run inning. Asher Friedman (Alcorn State) hit a RBI single, Austin Ellis (Northwestern State) drew a bases loaded walk, Ty Kenney (Houghton) collected a RBI groundout, and Logan Hoyt (Hilbert) drove in a run with a walk. The Steamers stranded the bases loaded as the final out was recorded.
Markus Brehm (Finger Lakes CC) finished 3 for 5 while Friedman, Ellis, and Dalton Groves (Webster) each picked up a pair of hits.
Cross Yarborough led Olean's 18-hit attack with a 4 for 5, 3 RBI day. Brock Wensel pitched 5.1 innings on Thursday to earn the victory.
Hornell travels to Olean for their final matchup of the season vs. the Oilers. First pitch at Bradner Stadium at 7 p.m.
