Hitmen rally past Steamers

The Horseheads Hitmen took down the Hornell Steamers 7-4 on Saturday night, thanks to a big 7th and 8th inning. The Hitmen move to 16-17-3 on the year while the Steamers fall to 14-19-3.

 

The Steamers got the scoring started in the 2nd on an RBI double by Logan Hoyt (Hilbert College).

 

Hornell added another run in the 3rd when Markus Brehm (Finger Lakes Community College) launched a ball into Adsit Street for a solo home run.

 

The Steamers tacked on another run in the 5th when Brehm scored on a wild pitch and another in the 6th on a throwing error.

 

The Hitmen got their scoring started in the 7th, scoring two runs on an RBI double by Max Underhill and a fielder's choice.

 

Horseheads took the lead in the 8th, scoring five runs on a throwing error, an RBI single by Jack Mathis, two runs on an error, and an RBI single by Diego Duque.

 

Jacob Masters picked up the win on the mound for the Hitmen, pitching three innings, giving up no runs on one hit, and striking out two batters. The Hitmen's offense was led by Mathis and Duque, who both had two hits and an RBI.

 

Leading the charge for the Steamers was Brehm, who was 4-5 with a solo home run, Mike Protz (Fredonia) pitched a gem on the mound, going six innings, giving up only two hits and no runs, and striking out five batters.

 

The Steamers look to bounce back on Sunday when they face the Dansville Gliders at Babcock Park. First pitch is at 5 p.m.
