Gliders slide past Steamers

The Hornell Steamers started fast but the Dansville Gliders rallied for a 11-4 victory on Sunday evening. 

 

Qingyang Feng (Houghton) led off the game by drawing a walk, Marcus Brehm (Finger Lakes CC) followed with a double, and Ty Kenney (Houghton) made it 1-0 with a RBI groundout. Two batters later, Austin Ellis (Northwestern State) delivered a RBI single.

 

Brehm's second double in two innings scored Dylan Walsh (Brandeis) to make it 3-0.

 

Dansville got going in the 2nd with a three run inning to tie it. The inning featured nine batters coming to the plate and a short rain delay.

 

The Gliders added to their lead with two more in the 3rd and put the game out of reach with four in the 4th. They added single runs in the 5th and 6th. 

 

Hornell got on the board again in the 9th, when Feng scored after he singled and scored on a throwing error.

 

Ellis was 2 for 4 with a RBI while Brehm was 2 for 5 with a RBI. Brehm now has twenty doubles on the season.

 

Ryan DiMartino was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI, Kade Keown drove in three, and Emmett McLean was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Adrian Hernandez earned the win with five innings of work. He allowed two earned runs on three hits while walking and striking out one.

 

Hornell has Monday off before heading back to Dansville for a 5 p.m. contest vs. the Gliders. They play at Maple City Park on Wednesday vs. Salamanca at 7 p.m.
