The Hornell Steamers tied the Salamanca Lizards in an exciting back-and-forth matchup, 14-14, in their season finale. The Steamers finished 14-21-4 on the year, and the Lizards finished 15-20-5.
The Steamers got the scoring started in the 1st on an RBI single by Austin Ellis (Northwestern State). Hornell kept the pressure on in the 2nd, scoring two more runs on a RBI groundout by Dylan Walsh (Brandeis) and a RBI fielder's choice by Logan Hoyt (Hilbert).
The Lizards tied it up at three in the 3rd on an RBI double by Connor Smith, an RBI single by Matt Smith, and an RBI single by Hunter White.
Salamanca kept the pressure on in the 4th and took the lead on an RBI single by Parker Drees and a two-run double by Connor Smith.
The Lizards added another run in the 5th inning on a Nate Wolf RBI single and then scored three more in the 6th on an RBI double by Matt Smith, an RBI single by Lucas Marsh, and an RBI double by Wolf.
The Steamers tacked on a run in the 6th on an RBI single by Ellis.
Hornell wasn't done there, scoring four more runs in the 7th on a two-run double by Markus Brehm (Finger Lakes Community College), an error, and a sacrifice fly by Ellis.
The Steamers completed the comeback and took the lead in the 8th, scoring runs on an RBI double by Hoyt, a two-run lead-taking double by Quingyang Feng (Houghton), and two more on a throwing error.
The Lizards took the lead right back in the 9th, scoring four runs on a two-run triple by Frank Kula, an RBI double by Drees, and an RBI single by Matt Smith.
Hornell tied it back up in the 9th on an RBI single by Feng with two outs to send the game into extra innings.
Both tems put runners on base in the 10th but could not plate the game winning run.
The Steamers were led by Feng and Ellis, who each had three hits and three RBI. Alex Green (Finger Lakes CC) was 4-7, and Brehm was 3-7 with two RBI
The Lizards were led by Connor Smith, who was 2-4 with three RBIs, Matt Smith, who was 3-5 with three RBIs, and Frank Kula, who was 3-6 with two RBIs.
