Steamers announce May reading challenge

The Hornell Steamers are partnering with Rooted Planning Group to sponsor a reading challenge in the month of May.

 

Any school-aged child that reads six or seven books during the month of May will be receive free admission for the whole familty to the Hornell Steamers' game versus the Dansville Gliders on Sunday, June 6 (6/7) at 4 p.m.

 

Local school libraries will have sheets for students to to track the books they read in the month of May. When a child reads at least six books the librarian will sign the tracking sheet to activate the free family admission ticket.


"We have had great sucess and great crowds for our Baseball and Books game over the last few years," commented Steamers General Manager Paul Welker,  "This reading challenge leads to the start of the summer baseball season and to the 2026 version of Baseball and Books. I am thankful for our partnership with the local librarians and for Rooted Planning Group for jumping into sponsor the free tickets for the family to the game."

 

Baseball and Books returns a week later on Friday, June 12. Children will receive free books when they enter the gates before the Steamers take on the Genese Rapids at 7 p.m.
