Rapids win 1-0 in ten innings

The Genesee Rapids scored a run with one out in the 10th inning to account for the only run in the game as they defeated the Hornell Steamers 1-0 on Tuesday night. The Rapids are now 2-0 and the Steamers are 2-1.

 

Neither team could crack the scoreboard in regulation as both team's pitching staffs worked in and out of jams all evening. 

 

Jackson Hubbard (Monroe CC) struck out seven and walked two while allowing just one hit in five innings of work for Hornell while Jude Balser allowed four hits in five innings of work for Genesee.

 

Tommy DiFranco (Clarkson) allowed one hit and a pair of walks in three innings of scoreless relief and Sebastian Ecker (Montclair State) sent the game into extra innings with a scoreless 9th.

 

Connor Stefan threw a scoreless 6th inning before Braden Williams tossed four scoreless innings.

 

With one out in the 10th, Troy Chamberlain hit a double to right center and he came around to score on a RBI single up the middle by Jerry Guzman. 

 

Hornell outhit Genesee seven to four but stranded 12 runners on base. No player on either team collected multiple hits in the game.

 

The Steamers are back at Maple City Park on Wednesday for their first cross division doubleheader of the season. They battle the Sherrill Silversmiths starting at 4 p.m.
